Our story and staff

Our History

The Station Ltd was established in 1978 by community members concerned about the plight of the homeless population in the inner city. It was initially one of the Cyrenian projects under the aegis of the Foundation for Rehabilitation and Treatment of Alcohol and Drug Dependence. The Cyrenian philosophy stresses the individuality and worth of those who seek assistance. This model of service encourages personal growth and individual responsibility.

It is particularly designed to meet the needs of the single homeless population. The Station has been involved in developing and supporting many complementary services to independent operation. These include Radio Skid Row, Resamen (Community Tenancy Scheme), The Food Distribution Network and City Women’s Hostel, therefore, increasing options and meeting the needs of the homeless population.

The Station continues to run the core day centre and the Housing Support Program which enables long term homeless people to access and maintain permanent housing. The drop in centre meets peoples’ immediate needs for basic facilities and offers an environment that enables service users to make informed and considered decisions about their longer-term plans.
